Types of Furniture For Kids

It was recognized, acknowledged and appreciated years ago that children have needs completely different from those of adults when it comes to furniture. The child sized furniture and child care business has come a long way since then and the market today offers numerous varieties of furniture models and child chair types to cater for the specific needs and preferences. The choice of which piece of furniture you should buy depends entirely on your personal needs and preferences.

Beginning with the basics, you will come across several types of child chairs in the market. Broadly speaking, there are high chairs and low chairs, both serving their own distinct purposes. High chairs are essentially used for feeding babies and these may be fixed or with wheels, single heighted or with a height and seat adjuster and so forth. Furthermore, types of chairs can also be classified according to the type of material used to make them, the shape and size. Low chairs are also sometimes called tuffets.

A bassinet is a bed specifically designed for babies and this is different from cribs and cots in the material used to make them. Bassinets are typically made of woven reeds and can be provided with extra cushioning with materials such as foam. A crib is bed for babies with sides much higher than a bassinet's and the sides of the crib are movable in most cases. Another variation of beds for babies is the cradle which is simply a bed for babies which has been mounted on rockers to make them oscillate manually. Cradles are great to sooth babies gently to sleep as the oscillations imitate the sway babies feel while being cradles in their mother's arm and this helps them sleep.

An armoire is a term you will hear commonly while shopping for children sized furniture and you should know that these are movable wardrobes with one and sometimes two doors. These are designed to be spacious and allow you to keep clothes hanged and folded in a wardrobe that stays on the ground so that you can easily reach them in the room whenever the need arises. Daybeds are beds made usually of wood or metal and these are multipurpose - they serve purposes of a bed and a seating space as well.

A more modern form of child sized furniture is the very popular bean bag. These are made of fabric and are filled or stuffed with a large number of small plastic pellets. As is evident, the market of child sized furniture is huge and a general know how of the types of furniture and their uses is essential to buying the write piece.
